Project Description
Championed by CSAW Faculty Fellow Dr. Daniel Gebregiorgis, the Climate Health & Resilience Project focuses on gaining a better understanding of challenges posed by extreme weather events, such as urban heat stress and hurricanes, to increase urban resilience to climate-related risks. In particular, the project will utilize existing weather monitoring stations in the metro Atlanta area and satellite data products to develop community led initiatives to raise awareness and promote adaptive coping and climate resilience practices. The project addresses key research questions within the CSAW framework related to air pollution, climate, and heat mapping.
Westside Passive Cooling Partnership
Community Fellow Ms. Annie Moore and CSAW will support an assessment of energy burden on 25 homes in English Avenue and strategically replant trees as a means of passive cooling. They will facilitate community engagement and create a replicable passive cooling approach for other Superfund sites.
Carbon Sequestration
Community Fellow Ms. Rosario Hernandez is spearheading an initiative to collect organic waste from the residents of English Ave, Vine City, and Hunter Hill and implement educational efforts about landfills and the importance of composting.
