Pictured is a CSAW Fellow with a map of Atlanta

Project Description

Championed by CSAW Affiliate Faculty Fellow Dr. Taylor Shelton of Georgia State University, the Community Mapping Lab is inspired by Syracuse Community Geography at Syracuse University and The Community Mapping Lab at the University of Georgia. It building on community-engaged mapping activities at GSU in 2012-2014, whereby CSAW Fellows in the Community Mapping Lab work with community partners to draw from geographic theories, methods, and practices to develop cartographic products and geovisualizations to support various community-centered projects. The goal would be to use the tools of mapping to empower community groups, whether in the form of geovisualizing various forms of data or in reframing deficit narratives into asset mapping.
