Projects

CSAW's Watershed Monitoring Network provides bacteria monitoring for E. coli in urban streams, which can aid in the detection and remediation of sewer spills and chronic sewer problems. 

The Watershed Learning Project collaborates with multiple community-based organizations to deepen community understanding of urban waterways and advancing environmental advocacy. CSAW's Watershed Learning Project currently resources the Operation AWLN initiative.

soilSHOPs (Soil Screening, Health, Outreach, and Partnerships) enhance soil screening in various neighborhoods within and surrounding neighborhood of the Superfund in the Westside of Atlanta.

The Listening & Sharing Project (LSP) will provide auxiliary services for listening to communities and stakeholders, and for sharing our work and insights with partners, communities, organizations, and other researchers. CSAW's LSP currently resources two initiatives:  Westside Greenspace and the HJL End the Corporate Takeover Campaign. 

The CSAW Drinking Water Project addresses critical concerns related to the quality of drinking water in metro Atlanta, including the economic impact of water quality on households. CSAW's Drinking Water Project currently resources two initiatives: Household Water Insecurity Experiences (HWISE) and Urban Water Capture.

The Data Centers project aims to collect information about the impacts and goals of data center development in Dekalb County and distribute it to the affected communities to inform strategic planning.

The Community Mapping Lab works with community partners to draw from geographic theories, methods, and practices to develop cartographic products and geovisualizations to support various community-centered projects. CSAW's Community Mapping Lab currently resources the Chattahoochee Brick Company Initiative. 

This project will utilize existing weather monitoring stations in the metro Atlanta area and satellite data products to develop community led initiatives to raise awareness and promote adaptive coping and climate resilience practices. CSAW's Climate Resilience & Health Project currently resources the Westside Passive Cooling Tree Equity Initiative. 

The Brownfields Project will promote partnerships between communities and researchers to engage on remediation of existing brownfields, potentially seek designation of new brownfields, and address environmental impacts. CSAW's Brownfields Project is currently resourcing the Tift Site initiative.

A partnership between the Saikawa Lab and ECO-Action, the Clean Air Initiative installs air monitoring equipment, collect and disseminate air quality data, and train residents in local communities.
